Our Roots
Argent a cock, one of his claws elevated, Gules. Upon a helmet correspondent to the armiger's degree, that is, a tournament helmet or a great helm, ensigned with a coronet of a noble, for the crest, a cock as in the shield. Mantling Gules lined Argent.
The first member of the Hahn family is mentioned in the historical annals is Eckhard, Eggehardus Gallus in Latin original. In 1230 he is referred to as a councilor and a knight of the Duke Johann the I-st of Mecklenburg and was, most probably, a descendent of the Obodrite nobility – for centuries allies of Charlemagne in his wars against the Germanic Saxons and the Slavic Veleti.

Our branch of the family starts from Johann August von Hahn (1730 – 1791), Postmaster General during the reign of Catherine the Great of Russia. The current owners of the Weissenburg Manor/ Kloster Zscheiplitz descend both from the Lutheran and Orthodox lines of the family: the first incorporated into the Ösel's Nobility Corporation in 1849, and the second (Gan; рус. Ган) – members of the St. Petersburg nobility.

Hahn of Weissenburg family also preserves and represents the legacy of the barons Knabenau – a junior line of the Counts of Kyburg, a brunch of the Agilolfing dynasty and direct descendant of the Carolingian and Ottonian dynasties, as well as houses of Billung and Habsburg-Laufenburg.
